Ishan Kishan’s National Recall Sparks Touching Fan Promise
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has made a notable return to the national cricket scene after being selected for India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The announcement was made by Devajit Saikia, secretary of the BCCI, during a press conference held in Mumbai on December 20, 2025. Kishan’s inclusion comes after a two-year hiatus from international cricket, during which he focused on revitalizing his performance in domestic tournaments.
The decision to bring Kishan back into the fold follows his impressive showing in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025/26. As captain of Jharkhand, he led the team to its first title in this prestigious tournament, contributing significantly by scoring a remarkable total of 517 runs across ten matches. His performance included two centuries and two fifties, culminating in a crucial century during the final against Haryana.
Memorable Promise to a Fan
As excitement builds around his national recall, an old video of Kishan has resurfaced, showcasing a heartfelt moment with a specially-abled fan. In the clip, the young admirer requests Kishan’s Indian jersey. The wicketkeeper responds warmly, assuring the fan that he will gift his jersey once he rejoins the national team. Following his recent performances, this promise has resonated widely on social media, highlighting Kishan’s character and commitment to his supporters.
The video captures a candid exchange, where the fan asks, “Sir, can you give me your Indian T-shirt?” Kishan replies, “I’m not even in the team, but whenever I get selected and come back, I’ll give you my T-shirt.” This moment has gone viral, showcasing the athlete’s genuine connection with his fans.
A Journey Back to the Top
Kishan’s path back to the national squad has not been without challenges. After being removed from the BCCI central contract list in 2024 due to a lack of participation in domestic cricket, he faced a critical juncture in his career. His last appearance for India was during a Test match against the West Indies in 2023. Following an absence from the international stage, Kishan took time to address personal issues, which contributed to his decision to withdraw from a tour to South Africa that same year.
Despite these setbacks, Kishan dedicated himself to domestic cricket, participating in various tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy. His efforts began to yield results when he made a return in the IPL 2025 season, where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and regained his central contract, ultimately being classified in the ‘C’ category by the BCCI.
With his recent achievements, including his stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Kishan has successfully earned his way back into contention for the national team. While it remains uncertain if he will secure a place in the main playing eleven for the T20 World Cup, he is expected to gain valuable experience during the T20I series against New Zealand prior to the tournament.
As Kishan prepares for this significant chapter in his career, his journey serves as a testament to determination and resilience, inspiring many fans and aspiring cricketers alike.
