Iga Swiatek’s Coach Declares 2025 Season a Success Despite Setbacks

Iga Swiatek concluded her 2025 season on a disappointing note, failing to advance to the semifinals of the WTA Finals held in Riyadh. Despite this setback, her coach, Wim Fissette, emphasized the overall success of the season, particularly highlighting her remarkable victory at Wimbledon. He referred to her achievements this year as “special” and labeled her a “legend” of the sport.

Swiatek, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, experienced fluctuating performance throughout the year. After struggling in the first half of the season, where she dropped to No. 5 in the rankings, she rebounded strongly. The 24-year-old captured her first Wimbledon title, along with championships in Cincinnati and Seoul, demonstrating her resilience.

Entering the WTA Finals as the No. 2 seed, Swiatek began her campaign with a convincing victory over Madison Keys. However, her journey ended prematurely when she lost two consecutive group stage matches against Elena Rybakina and Amanda Anisimova, ultimately missing the semifinal stage. Throughout the season, she recorded a total of 17 singles losses, which is eight more than in 2024, leading some fans to view the year as disappointing.

In a recent interview with Sport.Pl, Fissette expressed pride in Swiatek’s performance at Wimbledon, describing it as “the most spectacular performance.” Looking ahead, he shared that Swiatek’s goals for the upcoming season include winning multiple Grand Slam titles and reclaiming her No. 1 ranking.

After the WTA Finals, Swiatek returned to represent Poland at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she made headlines with a swift victory over Elyse Tse of New Zealand. In a dominant display, she secured a 6-0, 6-1 win in just 43 minutes, contributing to Poland’s overall 3-0 triumph in the play-off round. This match marked Swiatek’s first appearance in the Billie Jean King Cup this year, extending her winning streak in this international team competition to 11 matches, with her last loss dating back to 2019.

Poland had already established a 2-0 lead in the play-off before Swiatek’s match, thanks to victories by Katarzyna Kawa and the duo of Linda Klimovicova and Martyna Kubka. Poland’s next challenge will be against Romania in their second play-off match on Sunday.

After the Billie Jean King Cup, Swiatek is scheduled to compete in the United Cup 2026, a mixed team WTA 500 event taking place in Australia, starting on January 2, 2026. As she reflects on her 2025 season, Swiatek remains focused on her ambitions for the future, driven by the desire to achieve even greater heights in her illustrious career.
