Haryana Chief Minister Urges Scientists to Enhance Public Impact

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini called on scientists to extend their work beyond laboratory settings, emphasizing that the benefits of scientific advancements should reach the general public. Speaking at the India International Science Festival, Saini highlighted the importance of collaboration among scientists, research institutions, industry partners, and young innovators to create a science-based development model that improves quality of life, bolsters India’s global standing, and promotes environmental sustainability.

He articulated that science serves not just as a career path but as a vital instrument for nation-building. According to Saini, true prosperity materializes when scientific knowledge aids farmers in enhancing crop yields, assists in medical breakthroughs, and empowers entrepreneurs through innovation.

Haryana’s Emergence as a Science Hub

Despite its agrarian background, Haryana is swiftly evolving into a center for science, education, and innovation. The state government is prioritizing areas such as STEM education, artificial intelligence, robotics, start-up development, cybersecurity, agricultural technology, biotechnology, and space technology in its policy framework.

Saini stated that the ambition is for Haryana to become a leader not only in industrial development but also in science-driven progress. Cities such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, and Hisar are emerging as significant IT and research hubs. Gurugram has established itself as a premier location for information technology and cyber technology, while Faridabad and Panchkula have developed high-tech research centers. Additionally, Karnal, Hisar, and Rohtak are becoming recognized for agricultural technology and climate services.

The Chief Minister also pointed out that the recently established Mahabharata-based Anubhav Kendra in Jyotisar, Kurukshetra, marks a new era in science tourism.

Investment in Education and Research

Haryana’s universities and technical institutions are conducting advanced research in fields such as drones, biotechnology, machine learning, robotics, environmental science, and space studies. Farmers in the region are increasingly utilizing sensor-based irrigation techniques and adopting climate-smart agricultural practices.

To nurture students’ interest in science, the state has implemented a Science Talent Search Scholarship Scheme. Under this initiative, 1,500 science students in grades 11 and 12 receive a scholarship of ₹1,000 per month, while undergraduate students receive ₹4,000 and postgraduate students receive ₹6,000 per month. A separate initiative recognizes students who win medals or participate in science Olympiads.

During the event, Saini inaugurated the Students’ Science and Technology Village, describing it as the “New Nalanda” of modern India. He characterized the festival as a meeting point for science, innovation, entrepreneurial energy, and the aspirations of a new India.

The Chief Minister’s remarks reflect a vision of an integrated approach to science and technology that aims to foster economic growth while addressing societal needs.
