CUSB Scientist Urges Students to Innovate for Impact

In a compelling address at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) in Patna on March 15, 2024, former biotechnology advisor Gulshan Wadhwa emphasized the critical role of innovation and strategic thinking in scientific research. Speaking to faculty and students during an interactive session organized by the Department of Bioinformatics, Wadhwa highlighted that the process of “how to do” research often outweighs the importance of “what to do.”
Wadhwa encouraged attendees to challenge traditional methods and explore alternative approaches in their scientific endeavors. He cited recent Nobel Prize-winning studies, pointing out that many laureates did not foresee their recognition. What set these researchers apart was their ability to approach common problems with fresh perspectives, often employing unconventional methodologies.
Inspiration from Experience
With over three decades of experience in leading initiatives under the Department of Biotechnology, Wadhwa shared insights from his work that led to the establishment of over 150 bioinformatics centers across India. He urged students to pursue excellence with dedication and originality, advocating for innovative thinking as essential in today’s rapidly evolving scientific landscape.
The session was inaugurated by R S Rathore, head of the Department of Bioinformatics, who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the event in fostering dialogue between students and established scientists. The gathering saw enthusiastic engagement from both faculty members and students across various disciplines, including the School of Environment, Biology, and Earth Sciences.
Encouragement for Future Research
Wadhwa’s address resonated strongly with attendees, prompting discussions about the necessity of innovation in tackling global challenges. He reinforced the idea that originality in thought and method can lead to significant breakthroughs, which is crucial for advancing scientific knowledge and application.
The interactive session served as a valuable platform for students to reflect on their roles as future scientists. By encouraging a culture of inquiry and creativity, Wadhwa aims to inspire a generation of researchers who are not only prepared to meet existing challenges but also equipped to anticipate and tackle future ones.
As CUSB continues to cultivate a vibrant academic environment, events like this highlight the university’s commitment to nurturing innovative thinkers who can contribute meaningfully to the field of biotechnology and beyond.
