Telangana BJP Chief Calls for Recognition of Patel’s Legacy

N. Ramchander Rao, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, addressed a workshop on Sunday that marked the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. During his speech at the BJP office in Hyderabad, Rao criticized certain political parties for neglecting to teach the youth about Patel’s significant contributions to India’s unity, particularly his role in the integration of over 560 princely states, including Hyderabad State.
Rao expressed his pride in the fact that Telangana became a part of India largely due to Patel’s efforts. He lamented the distortion of historical facts for political advantage, highlighting the need for a true representation of Patel’s legacy. He specifically called out the Congress party, alleging that it has attempted to undermine national unity by exploiting divisions based on caste, region, and language. This, he argued, stands in stark contrast to Patel’s vision for an integrated India.
In his remarks, Rao underscored the significance of Prime Minister Modi‘s initiatives, such as “Ek Bharat – Atma Nirbhar Bharat,” which aim to strengthen the nation. He encouraged party workers to draw inspiration from Patel’s advocacy for “Swadeshi,” or self-reliance, emphasizing that economic growth is vital for national integrity.
Commemoration and Allegations Against Congress
Rao also praised the BJP and the Modi government for designating September 17 as “Hyderabad Liberation Day,” a recognition he claimed the Telangana state government has failed to uphold. He voiced concerns about foreign influences on Indian politics, specifically mentioning funds from entities associated with George Soros that purportedly support the Congress party in fostering societal divisions.
Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah as a “modern-day Sardar Patel,” Rao credited Shah for significantly reducing the influence of Naxalism in India. Nevertheless, he cautioned against claims that some local politicians in Telangana might have connections with Maoist groups. He called for an inquiry by the Congress-led state government into these allegations, urging accountability and transparency in political affairs.
Through his remarks, Rao aimed to rekindle awareness about Patel’s enduring legacy in fostering national unity, while also calling for a critical examination of contemporary political narratives that may undermine this ideal. As discussions around historical figures and their roles in shaping modern India continue, Rao’s comments reflect a broader political strategy aimed at reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to Patel’s vision.
