Woman Alleges Delivery Colleague Attempted Sexual Assault

A 23-year-old woman has accused a male colleague of attempting to sexually assault her during a delivery ride in Ahmedabad. The incident reportedly took place on July 26, 2023, after the woman, who works as a receptionist at a dog grooming shop, sustained an injury earlier that day.

According to her complaint filed with the Chandkheda police, the woman had booked a two-wheeler through a mobile application, which lost balance and crashed into a wall, resulting in a hand injury. After receiving treatment at a nearby clinic, she returned to work. Her supervisor advised her to go home and arranged for her to travel in a delivery vehicle that was scheduled to take pet food and medicines to Naroda.

While in the vehicle, the woman alleges that the male delivery assistant driving her diverted the route and drove to a secluded area near the Bhat Toll Tax Plaza in Gandhinagar. There, he allegedly attempted to drag her into the bushes with the intent to rape her. When she resisted, he reportedly held her hand and tried to pull her back into the vehicle.

In a moment of desperation, the woman managed to call a female colleague, who intervened over speakerphone. The colleague instructed the driver to return her home immediately. Following this, the accused complied and left the area. Despite this, the woman later stated that he had acted with clear intent to assault her.

Chandkheda police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to assault and the intent to outrage a woman’s modesty. An investigation is currently underway, focusing on the woman’s statement and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
