Union Minister Announces Second AIISH Institute in Kanpur

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, announced the establishment of a second All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Kanpur. The foundation stone for this new institute was laid in 2024, and construction is currently underway. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance speech and hearing services across the country.
During the diamond jubilee celebrations of the AIISH in Mysuru, Patel emphasized the importance of collaboration between AIISH and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). This partnership aims to extend critical speech and hearing services to patients visiting AIIMS facilities, thereby enhancing the overall quality of care available to individuals with communication disorders.
Patel highlighted the significant achievements of AIISH, noting its status as one of the leading institutions in South-East Asia focused on communication disorders. Over the years, AIISH has played a pivotal role in national health initiatives, such as the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness and the Bal Swasthya Karyakram. These programs aim to prevent and manage hearing impairments, particularly among children and vulnerable populations.
The Kanpur AIISH is expected to further bolster the country’s capacity to address speech and hearing challenges. This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes for individuals with communication disorders. The establishment of this institute marks a significant step towards expanding specialized services in India, ensuring that those in need receive the attention and care they require.
As work progresses on the new facility in Kanpur, stakeholders are optimistic about the impact it will have on local communities and the potential for improved health services nationally. The government’s investment in such critical health infrastructure reflects a growing recognition of the importance of addressing communication disorders as part of comprehensive healthcare.
With the launch of the Kanpur AIISH, the future looks promising for individuals seeking support and services related to speech and hearing. This development not only enhances service availability but also positions India as a leader in addressing communication disorders on a global scale.
