LG Sinha Advocates Public-Private Partnership in Healthcare
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to enhance healthcare access and improve health outcomes. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the new 200-bedded hospital, Amandeep BR Medicity, located at Tengpora-Bemina Bypass in Srinagar, on March 15, 2024. This facility, developed in partnership with Ujala Cygnus Healthcare, is equipped with advanced medical technology and aims to provide quality healthcare services to the community.
In his address, Sinha highlighted the rapid advancements in healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir since 2020. He pointed to the establishment of modern hospitals, an increase in the number of MBBS and nursing seats, and the expansion of health and wellness centres in remote areas. He stated, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we built new medical colleges, thousands of health and wellness centres, launched universal health insurance, and created high-quality and accessible healthcare for the people of J&K UT.”
The Lieutenant Governor noted that approximately 90 percent of the population in Jammu and Kashmir is now covered under a universal health coverage scheme worth Rs 5 Lakh (approximately $6,000). He expressed confidence that these developments have not only strengthened the healthcare system but have also attracted private investment into the sector.
Sinha urged stakeholders to utilize existing resources judiciously to meet patient needs with compassion and dedication. He underscored the importance of collaboration between public and private entities in achieving these goals.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures including Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, and Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of Health and Medical Education. Additionally, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Founder Director of the Amandeep Group of Hospitals, and Nitin Nag, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services, were also present along with senior officials, doctors, and hospital staff.
With the opening of Amandeep BR Medicity, the region is poised for significant improvements in healthcare delivery, marking a pivotal step forward in the ongoing efforts to enhance health services in Jammu and Kashmir.
