Teja Sajja’s Mirai Set for September 12 Release After Delay
Director Karthik Ghattamaneni has confirmed that the release of the much-anticipated film Mirai has been rescheduled to September 12, 2025, moving it from its original date of September 5. Ghattamaneni explained that the decision was made to avoid a clash with another film, ensuring a more favorable release window for both. “Distributors felt both films releasing on the same day would be a problem. We thought we should give respect to each other’s films. It’s always good to have a clear window,” he stated.
Mirai, which features Teja Sajja, shifts the focus from the actor to the narrative itself. The film explores the legend of Emperor Ashoka and his nine secret books, said to contain vast knowledge and treasures. Ghattamaneni elaborated on the premise, noting, “It’s a myth that King Ashoka had nine books, each guarded by nine protectors through generations. I took a present-day perspective—what if these books were seized by one man, and another rose to stop him?”
Exploring Mythology and Action
The antagonist in Mirai is portrayed by Manchu Manoj as “The Black Sword,” a character rich in power and purpose. Ghattamaneni describes this figure as more of an anti-hero, whose actions set the stage for a cosmic battle involving another protagonist destined to confront him. “It’s about experiencing the cosmos, the power of Brahmand,” he added, highlighting the film’s adventurous nature.
While some rumors suggested that the film’s delay was due to competition with another release featuring Ravi Teja, Ghattamaneni clarified that the postponement was due to logistical issues related to distribution and post-production. “We have nearly 1,800 VFX shots. Every alternate frame involves effects, tracking, or colour grading. We were ready for September 5 but decided to take an extra week to perfect the details. Dharma Productions also wanted a clear window. Hence, we’ve locked September 12,” he explained.
Sajja’s Commitment to the Role
Ghattamaneni chose Teja Sajja for the lead role based on his unique qualities. “I needed someone with innocence and stubbornness—Sajja has both. His look carries honesty, which the character demanded,” he said. The production faced significant challenges, shooting in extreme conditions across diverse locations including the Thar Desert, Kutch, the Himalayas in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. “The film required extreme commitment—we shot in minus 20–25 degrees,” Ghattamaneni noted.
As the release date approaches, the director expressed his hopes for audience reception. “I just want people to embrace it. This is the most anxious phase of filmmaking—when the work is done and you’re waiting for the audience. I hope both Indian and international viewers connect with Mirai,” he said, emphasizing the film’s universal appeal.
The anticipation surrounding Mirai continues to build, with its blend of mythology and action poised to captivate audiences when it finally hits theaters.
