GIDC Advances Water Supply Upgrade Across Industrial Estates
The **Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC)** has initiated plans to enhance water supply systems across its industrial estates. This comprehensive proposal aims to implement smart flow meters, automate operations, and enable real-time monitoring of water quality. These upgrades are part of a broader strategy to improve water supply reliability and quality for industries operating within these zones.
According to a GIDC official, “This initiative is part of the broader objective to strengthen water supply, improve the quality of water supplied to industries, and enhance operational efficiency across industrial estates.” The proposal includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of smart flow meters, along with wireless water level and quality transmitters. Data collected from these devices will be integrated into a cloud-based system for effective monitoring.
Enhancing Infrastructure in Industrial Zones
The GIDC board recently discussed this proposal, which aligns with the **Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)**’s focus on improving infrastructure in industrial zones and parks. The DPIIT’s **Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS)**, introduced in 2018, assesses industrial estates based on critical infrastructure, connectivity, business support services, and environmental and safety standards. Under IPRS 2.0, the requirement for adequate water supply, along with ongoing monitoring of air and water quality, has become a key assessment metric.
To meet these benchmarks, smart devices will be deployed across all estates. The proposed systems will automate pump operations based on real-time tank levels and pressure readings. This ensures a steady flow of water while preventing issues such as overflows and dry-run incidents. “Data from all devices will be transmitted to a central platform for monitoring, analysis, and billing,” the source added.
The corporation anticipates that these upgrades will help identify leakages and water pilferage, track water drawn from sources managed by the **Public Works Department (PWD)** or **Water Resources Department (WRD)**, and provide unit-wise consumption updates through the GIDC online portal. Officials are confident that the improvements will strengthen supply reliability, enhance industrial water quality, and boost operational efficiency across the estates.
The estimated cost of the project is still under finalisation, indicating that GIDC is in the early stages of this significant infrastructure upgrade. As these plans progress, the focus remains on creating a more sustainable and efficient water supply system that meets the needs of the industries it serves.
