Lakhs Celebrate Eid-e-Milad with Grand Processions in Lucknow

The birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad was marked by vibrant celebrations in Lucknow on March 29, 2024, as lakhs of participants joined the festivities of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (Barawafat). Two major processions showcased the spirit of unity and devotion, reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage.

The first procession, known as the Madhe Sahaba, commenced from Aminabad Park in the afternoon. It wound through key areas, including Maulviganj, Rakabganj, Nakkhas, Billauchpura, and Haiderganj, before culminating at Eidgah Aishbagh. This event was led by prominent figures such as Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, the chairman of the Islamic Centre of India and Imam of Eidgah, alongside Maulana Abdul Azim Farooqui, Maulana Abdul Bari Farooqui, and Maulana Muhammad Mushtaq.

The procession witnessed participation from nearly 200 groups and organizations, drawing attendees from both the Muslim and Hindu communities. Participants greeted the procession at various points, embodying the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb—a cultural synthesis that signifies communal harmony in Lucknow.

In a statement, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali emphasized the significance of the day, stating, “It is a very auspicious day, the day when God sent his last prophet, Hazrat Mohammad, to guide all human beings. Muslims must strive to spread the Prophet’s message of humanity, peace, and brotherhood.”

The second procession, known as Juloos-e-Mohammadi, was organized by the All-India Mohammadi Mission. Beginning at Dargah Hazrat Makhdoom Shah Mina Shah at 14:30, the procession proceeded to Jyotiba Phule Park, concluding about an hour later. Participants carried banners and flags, demonstrating resilience despite intermittent rain.

The celebrations not only marked a religious observance but also highlighted the enduring spirit of community and togetherness. Participants expressed their commitment to the values of peace and brotherhood, which are central to the teachings of the Prophet.

Festivities like these serve to reinforce the bonds between diverse groups, showcasing the vibrant tapestry of Lucknow’s cultural landscape during such significant occasions.
