Neeraj Chopra Eyes Diamond League Title in Zurich Final

Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra is set to compete in the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich on the evening of August 28, 2025. This marks his significant return to the event after a three-year gap, during which he has been a formidable competitor, securing medals at the Olympics and consistently ranking among the top throwers globally.
Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, aims to reclaim the Diamond League title he last held in 2022. He enters the final as a strong contender, having finished as a runner-up in the previous two seasons. The competition will be fierce, with defending champion Anderson Peters and Germany’s Julian Weber also vying for victory.
Recent Performances and Preparations
In his season-opening Diamond League meet on May 16, Chopra achieved a throw of 90.23 meters, marking a significant milestone as he finally breached the coveted 90-meter mark after over five years of attempts. Despite this achievement, Chopra expressed dissatisfaction with his performance earlier this year.
“I feel I am really fast in run-up, but I don’t think I am using the speed (to send javelin farther) right now,” Chopra stated. “If my left leg is straight and if I use perfect block, that will be a really good throw and then I will be satisfied with my speed,” he added.
Chopra’s determination to improve is evident as he analyzes his technique. He recognizes the potential for greater distances, stating, “You don’t know in javelin, you go maybe four or five metres also.”
In previous competitions, Chopra finished second to Weber in Doha despite surpassing the 90-meter distance. He later secured victory in the Paris leg of the Diamond League on June 20, with a throw of 88.16 meters, while Weber trailed closely with 87.88 meters.
Event Details for Fans and Viewers
Fans eager to watch Chopra’s performance will need to tune in for the men’s javelin event at the Diamond League final, scheduled to begin at 23:15 IST. The event will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, a city known for hosting high-stakes athletic competitions.
For viewers in India, the event will not be broadcast live on television. However, it will be available for live streaming on the Wanda Diamond League’s YouTube channel, allowing fans to follow Chopra’s journey in real-time.
As the final approaches, anticipation builds around Chopra’s performance. With his focus on technical refinement and competitive spirit, he aims to bring home the Diamond League title once again, showcasing his talent on a global stage.
