IMS BHU Hosts Walk to Promote Bone Health Awareness
In Varanasi, the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, organized a walk to promote awareness about bone and joint health as part of Bone and Joint Week. The initiative drew a diverse crowd, including faculty members, junior doctors from the Orthopaedics Department, and local community members. This event aimed to emphasize the significance of maintaining healthy bones, particularly among the elderly population.
Leadership and Key Messages
The walk was led by Prof. SN Sankhwar, the Director of IMS, who highlighted the crucial role of bone health in overall well-being. “Caring for our elders is not just a responsibility; it is a vital aspect of building a healthier nation. Holistic care is essential for their well-being,” he stated, underscoring the importance of attentive care for older adults.
Prof. Amit Rastogi addressed participants regarding this year’s theme from the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA), which focused on fall prevention and osteoporosis. He pointed out the rising incidence of these conditions among the elderly and urged attendees to implement preventive strategies in their daily lives. The emphasis on education and awareness is seen as a key step in combating these health issues.
Community Engagement and Future Commitment
During the event, Dr. Sanjay Yadav expressed his gratitude to all participants and emphasized the importance of teamwork in healthcare. “It is through collaboration and shared efforts that we can make a meaningful impact on the health of our community,” he remarked. This sentiment resonated with attendees, reinforcing the idea that collective action is crucial for promoting health initiatives.
The walk concluded with a pledge from all participants to advocate for improved bone health and holistic care for the elderly. This commitment highlights the understanding that proactive measures can lead to a healthier future for everyone, ensuring that the message of bone health awareness continues to resonate within the community.
