Minnesota Lynx Acquire DiJonai Carrington in Major Trade

The Minnesota Lynx have made a significant move by trading for guard DiJonai Carrington from the Dallas Wings, bolstering their roster with last season’s Most Improved Player. In exchange, the Wings receive forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson, and a second-round draft pick in 2027. This trade marks a strategic effort for the Lynx as they aim to enhance their competitive edge in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
Carrington, who averaged 10.4 points and a career-high 5.1 rebounds per game, joined the Wings earlier this year in a trade from the Connecticut Sun. During her time with the Sun, she earned recognition as a first-team all-defensive selection in 2024, in addition to her Most Improved accolade. This adds considerable value to the Lynx as they seek to strengthen their lineup for the remainder of the season.
Miller, who has spent over two seasons with the Lynx, has contributed an average of 7.1 points per game. Samuelson joined Minnesota in April, contributing 3.3 points per game. The trade reflects the Lynx’s intention to revamp their roster and build for future success, while the Wings look to integrate new talent in exchange for their departing players.
To facilitate the trade, the Wings waived Teaira McCowan, who had been on a protected veteran contract and averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The Lynx’s acquisition of Carrington signifies their commitment to pursuing excellence as they continue to navigate the competitive landscape of the WNBA.
As the season progresses, both teams will monitor the impact of this trade on their respective performances. The Lynx are poised to integrate Carrington into their system, while the Wings will work to maximize the potential of their newly acquired players. The ramifications of this trade could play a crucial role in the playoff race as the WNBA heads into its final stages.
