Dual Bomb Blasts Rock Dhaka, Targeting Party Office and Home
On the evening of March 10, 2024, dual bomb blasts shook the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, as “cocktail” bombs were hurled outside the party office of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the home of an adviser to the interim government. The incidents occurred within minutes of each other, raising concerns about security in the city.
Details of the Incidents
The first explosion targeted the residence of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, who serves as Adviser to the Ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources. This blast occurred around 21:00 local time in the Central Road area. According to reports from local news outlet Prothom Alo, two crude bombs detonated outside Hasan’s home, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Shortly after the attack on Hasan’s residence, another bomb exploded at the NCP office located in the Banglamotors neighbourhood. Police confirmed to various news outlets that there were no casualties from this incident either. The timing of these blasts, occurring close to each other, has raised questions about the safety of political figures in the region.
Public Reaction and Security Concerns
These explosions have sparked concern among citizens and political observers alike. The targeted attacks, especially against a government adviser, highlight the ongoing instability in Bangladesh’s political landscape. Eyewitnesses reported a significant police presence at both locations following the incidents, as law enforcement began investigations into the motives behind the bombings.
While authorities have not yet identified any suspects, the attacks have reignited fears about the potential for further violence in the capital. Political analysts are closely monitoring the situation, as these events may influence the public’s perception of security and governance in the country.
As the investigations continue, residents and political leaders alike are calling for increased measures to ensure safety in Dhaka. The government has yet to release an official statement addressing the bombings or outlining steps to prevent future incidents.
