Chennai Hosts Annual Walkathon to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness
On Sunday, October 1, 2025, the city of Chennai witnessed the 16th annual breast cancer awareness walkathon titled “One Walk One Hope.” Organized by CAN-STOP (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain) in collaboration with Rotary District 3234, the event aimed to highlight the importance of prevention, early detection, and regular self-examination for breast cancer.
The walkathon was inaugurated by Ma. Subramanian, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare. The event attracted notable personalities, including special invitee and actor Sanchita Shetty. Guests of honour included Vinod Saraogi, District Governor of RID 3234, along with other rotary members such as J.B. Kamdar, J. Sridhar, N.S. Saravanan, Suresh D. Jain, and Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan, founder of CAN-STOP and Trustee & Director of SMF.
Promoting Health Awareness and Community Engagement
The initiative was designed not only to raise awareness but also to provide practical support to attendees. Information and screening stalls were set up to educate participants about breast cancer, alongside offering free health check-ups. These proactive measures aimed to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to combat the disease.
According to statistics from the World Health Organization, breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent forms of cancer globally, underscoring the significance of events like this walkathon. The engagement of local communities is crucial in fostering a culture of awareness and prevention.
