Deiveson Figueiredo Draws Inspiration from Pereira and Teixeira

Deiveson Figueiredo expressed renewed motivation as he closely observes the championship successes of fellow Brazilians Alex Pereira and Glover Teixeira. Both fighters achieved significant titles later in their careers, with Pereira becoming a two-time UFC light heavyweight champion at the age of 38 and Teixeira capturing the 205-pound title at 42, defeating Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267. Now 37, Figueiredo aims to emulate their paths as he prepares for his upcoming fight at UFC Rio.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Figueiredo highlighted how the achievements of Pereira and Teixeira serve as a source of inspiration for him. He noted, “That motivates me even more,” underscoring his determination to succeed in a sport that often sees younger athletes dominate. Figueiredo is a former two-time flyweight champion and currently competes in the bantamweight division. He is set to face Montel Jackson in the co-main event of UFC Rio this Saturday.
Figueiredo’s drive reflects a broader trend in combat sports, where age is increasingly seen as just a number. Both Pereira and Teixeira have demonstrated that success can come later in life, challenging the notion that athletes must peak in their twenties. This perspective resonates strongly with Figueiredo, who is keen to leverage his experience as he steps into the octagon.
Pereira recently made headlines after defeating Magomed Ankalaev via TKO in the first round at UFC 320. This victory allowed him to reclaim the light heavyweight title. Following his win, Pereira addressed a new injury he sustained during the fight, hinting at a potential return for a match on the upcoming UFC White House card scheduled for June 14, 2026, coinciding with US President Donald Trump‘s 80th birthday.
Figueiredo is keenly aware of the challenges ahead. As he prepares for his bout against Jackson, he recognizes the significance of this fight in his career trajectory. With the weight of his predecessors’ accomplishments fueling his ambition, Figueiredo is poised to make a statement in the bantamweight division.
The UFC continues to be a platform where fighters redefine expectations, proving that determination and skill can lead to success at any age. As Figueiredo embarks on this next chapter, the eyes of the MMA community will be on him, eager to see if he can follow in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriots.
