Niva Bupa Halts Cashless Treatments at Max Hospitals Nationwide

Health insurer Niva Bupa has suspended cashless treatment facilities at all Max Hospitals across India, effective August 16, 2025. This decision follows the expiration of their agreement in May 2025 and the failure to reach a mutual understanding on revised package rates between the two parties.
The suspension means that customers insured by Niva Bupa will need to pay their medical bills upfront when treated at Max Hospitals and subsequently file for reimbursement with the insurer. This change is significant for the many policyholders who rely on cashless services for seamless medical treatment.
Impact on Policyholders
Bhabhtosh Mishra, Director and Chief Operating Officer at Niva Bupa Health Insurance, confirmed the suspension and emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring a smooth experience for its policyholders. To assist customers during this transition, Niva Bupa has introduced priority and fast-track reimbursement claim processing, aiming to minimize the financial burden on patients.
Despite this setback, Niva Bupa assures its customers that cashless services remain available at over 10,400 hospitals within its network across the country. This extensive network continues to provide options for policyholders while they navigate the current changes with Max Hospitals.
The inability to finalize tariff revisions has raised concerns among customers, as cashless facilities are often an essential aspect of health insurance that allows for immediate access to care without upfront payment. The situation highlights the challenges health insurers face in negotiating agreements with healthcare providers, which can directly impact patient access to necessary treatments.
As discussions continue, both Niva Bupa and Max Hospitals are expected to explore potential solutions. The healthcare landscape in India remains dynamic, and policyholders are advised to stay informed about their options and any further developments regarding cashless treatment facilities.
