Former CM V. Narayanasamy Denies Role in Medicine Procurement Probe

Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has publicly stated that he is not involved in the ongoing investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) unit regarding the procurement of medicines. This clarification came during a press conference held on Monday, where Narayanasamy addressed allegations made by V.P. Ramalingam, the president of the BJP in Puducherry.
Narayanasamy emphasized that Ramalingam’s claims about his involvement in the procurement of substandard medicines during the previous Congress government are unfounded. He asserted that the procurement process was managed by departmental officers, not by him personally. The VAC has already arrested six individuals in connection with the case, including the former Director of the Health Department. “I am prepared for any investigation by the CBI or VAC,” Narayanasamy stated.
Response to Corruption Allegations
In addition to defending himself, Narayanasamy criticized the current administration led by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. He pointed out that the Congress party has consistently raised allegations of corruption against Rangasamy and his ministers. He urged Ramalingam to address these accusations instead of deflecting attention by attacking him.
During the press conference, Narayanasamy also touched on political strategies regarding upcoming elections. He revealed that leaders from the INDIA bloc submitted a formal request to P. Jawahar, the Chief Electoral Officer, demanding the cancellation of the State Investment Region (SIR) in Puducherry. “We believe the SIR was announced in haste, and with elections approaching early next year, it is crucial to reconsider this decision,” he remarked.
The former Chief Minister noted that the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has already taken legal steps regarding the SIR, having approached the Supreme Court. He indicated that the Congress party would also contemplate similar legal action if necessary.
The ongoing investigation and the political maneuvers surrounding it are indicative of the charged atmosphere in Puducherry as the region prepares for upcoming electoral contests. The clarity provided by Narayanasamy may shift focus back to the accountability of the current government and the implications of the SIR, setting the stage for a contentious political landscape in the months ahead.
