Actor Rahul Dev has opened up about the profound grief following the death of his younger brother, actor Mukul Dev, who passed away on May 23, 2025, in New Delhi, at the age of 54 due to prolonged health issues. In a candid interview with journalist Faridoon Shahryar, Dev discussed the impact of this loss, which comes after enduring the deaths of his wife and parents. He described the situation as “tricky,” expressing his resolve to face life with renewed courage.

Reflecting on his series of personal tragedies, Dev shared, “I don’t know what to make out of all of it. Losing a partner very young. Then parenting. Then losing a father… then a mother… and now a younger brother.” He emphasized the suddenness of loss, stating, “Sometimes it happens that you are supposed to do something… and suddenly you pick up the phone and realise that person is no more.” This emotional upheaval has left him shaken, yet he remains determined to move forward.

Finding Strength in Adversity

Dev acknowledged that his past experiences have shaped his current outlook on life. Following his wife’s death, he took a significant break from his career, stepping away for nearly five years. This time, however, he understands the necessity of continuing his work. “It’s easy to work hard. But because I’ve been through it once, I took a drastic step. I was gone for four and a half years. Now I can’t afford that,” he reflected. With time no longer on his side, he has chosen to embrace his creative opportunities while supporting his family.

The actor also recognized his responsibilities towards his son, sister, and Mukul’s daughter, highlighting the importance of family during such difficult times. He expressed a sense of duty to carry on, stating, “You become wiser. You realise it’s all part of life. Nothing really ends—it just takes another form.”

Remembering Mukul Dev

In his tribute to Mukul, Dev described his brother as the “darling of the house.” He fondly recalled their relationship, noting, “He was the ladla of the house, so to say—the darling at home.” Mukul, being two years younger, often felt like a responsibility for Rahul, who would frequently lecture him on healthier choices. “But after a while, when they are adults, one thing you must give them is space. Very difficult to do, but very necessary,” he added.

Dev’s close friend, actress Pooja Bhatt, also paid tribute to Mukul, acknowledging his vibrant spirit and the mark he left on those around him. In the face of loss, Dev emphasized the importance of choosing love over despair. “Our emotions take us somewhere, but I think the key is to face it bravely. Not with a pinch of salt, but with love.” He believes that embracing love and acceptance is crucial for healing.

Through his reflections, Rahul Dev exemplifies resilience in the face of overwhelming grief. His journey through personal loss resonates deeply as he navigates this latest chapter, reminding us of the enduring bonds of family and the strength that comes from love.
