BJP Leader Urges PM for Urgent Flood Relief in Punjab
In response to the devastating floods in Punjab, state BJP president Sunil Jakhar has formally requested urgent assistance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Jakhar detailed the catastrophic impact of the recent heavy rainfall, which has severely affected agricultural areas critical to both the state’s economy and India’s food security.
The floods, exacerbated by excessive rainfall in the upper hilly regions, have caused significant damage across Punjab. Jakhar described how the most affected regions include the border belt of the Bhoa assembly constituency extending to Fazilka, as well as districts such as Kapurthala. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings for continued heavy rainfall, heightening concerns about the situation worsening further.
Jakhar highlighted the human cost of the disaster, noting that many families have been displaced and left homeless due to flooding. He pointed out that thousands of acres of crops have been destroyed, jeopardizing the livelihood of countless farmers and the overall agricultural output of the state.
While acknowledging the efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the financial aid already provided by the government, Jakhar emphasized that the scale of devastation necessitates additional support from the central government. He has called for the dispatch of central assessment teams to evaluate the situation on the ground and to formulate a special relief package tailored to the immediate needs of those affected by the floods.
Jakhar underscored Punjab’s dual role as a vital border state and a cornerstone of national food security. He expressed confidence that PM Modi would respond to the crisis with the urgency it demands, stating that swift intervention from the central government would offer much-needed relief and hope to thousands of families facing dire circumstances.
The situation in Punjab remains critical, and the need for a coordinated response is paramount to assist those suffering from the aftermath of this natural disaster.
