Imran Khan Allegedly Tortured in Adiala Jail Amid Political Turmoil

Reports from insiders within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suggest that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is enduring severe mistreatment in Adiala Jail. According to sources who spoke to CNN-News18, Khan is reportedly being held in near-total isolation, with accounts of physical abuse and extreme confinement conditions.

The information indicates that Khan has not had meaningful access to his family or legal representatives for several weeks. Insiders noted that his health is deteriorating slowly, attributed to the harsh treatment and restricted communication with the outside world. Previously, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was allowed to meet Khan, but these meetings allegedly served to provide misleadingly positive updates regarding his condition. As one source explained, “He was masking the real situation inside the prison.”

Authorities appear concerned that if Khan’s sisters publicize his deteriorating state, it could incite widespread protests across the nation.

Political Tensions Rise Amid Protests

In response to ongoing restrictions, Khan’s sisters have approached the Islamabad High Court with a petition seeking immediate access to him. Meanwhile, PTI leaders have intensified their protests. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi led a sit-in outside Adiala Jail after being denied access to meet Khan for the eighth consecutive time. The protest began on Thursday afternoon and included members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet. PTI shared visuals of Afridi and party workers performing prayers outside the prison.

During a live stream, Afridi announced the conclusion of the sit-in, stating he would escalate the matter to the Islamabad High Court. He referenced incidents involving Khan’s sisters, who reportedly faced disrespectful treatment, saying, “You have seen their condition yourself; they were grabbed by their hair and disrespected.”

Afridi accused the authorities of using such measures to undermine Khan’s resolve. He also claimed that Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, is being targeted as part of an effort to pressure the former prime minister. Afridi remarked, “A province is being treated like a stepmother,” condemning the treatment of Khan, who represents a constituency of approximately 25 million people.

Additionally, former aide Zulfi Bukhari highlighted that no one has seen Khan since November 4, 2023, with no justification provided for the ongoing denial of meetings.
