Finn Wolfhard and Co-Stars Bring Comedy Gold to SNL
Finn Wolfhard, best known for his role in Netflix’s acclaimed series Stranger Things, made a memorable debut on Saturday Night Live on March 9, 2024. The 23-year-old actor brought along his co-stars, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, to join him in a series of comedic sketches that both celebrated and poked fun at their beloved show.
Wolfhard opened the live show with an engaging monologue, humorously reflecting on his experiences growing up in the public eye. “I gotta tell you: It feels so amazing that 400 million people got to watch me go through puberty. What a dream,” he quipped, eliciting laughter from the audience. Matarazzo and McLaughlin made a surprise appearance on stage, sharing their own anecdotes about being former child stars.
The evening’s sketches included a clever parody of Stranger Things, which humorously addressed the fervent fan speculation surrounding a possible secret ninth episode. One memorable pre-taped segment featured a mock lineup of 90s-style spinoffs, such as “Strangerous Minds,” in which Steve Harrington takes on the role of a teacher, and “Mike in Manhattan,” styled after the iconic series “Sex and the City.” Another sketch provided a fresh perspective on the Stranger Things storyline, retelling it through the eyes of Mike Wheeler’s father, who is often overlooked in the original narrative.
Among the highlights of the night was “Heated Wizardry,” a parody combining elements of the popular Canadian series “Heated Rivalry” and the Harry Potter franchise. In this sketch, Wolfhard portrayed Harry Potter, while Ben Marshall played Ron Weasley. The comedic duo’s Quidditch rivalry takes an unexpected turn, culminating in a romantic subplot, with a surprise cameo by Jason Momoa as Rubeus Hagrid.
The combination of nostalgia and humor resonated with audiences, showcasing not only the chemistry among the actors but also their ability to laugh at their own experiences. As Wolfhard and his co-stars continue to navigate their careers post-Stranger Things, their appearances on platforms like SNL serve as a reminder of their enduring connection to the iconic series and its fans.
