Bank Staffer Allegedly Defrauds Customer of ₹1 Lakh with Credit Card Scheme

A bank staff member in Bhopal is under investigation for allegedly committing fraud by obtaining a credit card in a customer’s name and using it for unauthorized purchases totaling ₹1 lakh. The accused, identified as Abhay Trivedi, reportedly included his own mobile number on the application form, allowing him to receive the card directly.

The incident began when Triveni Prasad Lodhi, a truck driver residing in Ayodhya Nagar, visited his bank branch about six months ago for assistance. During his visit, Trivedi, an outsourced staffer, approached Lodhi with an offer for a new credit card, highlighting various attractive benefits. After gathering Lodhi’s personal information, Trivedi allegedly filled out the application and used his own contact details, ultimately receiving the card himself.

Lodhi remained unaware of the credit card issuance, believing the application process had not been finalized. The situation escalated when he returned to the bank to apply for a loan. Bank officials informed him of an outstanding credit card bill amounting to ₹1 lakh, which had adversely affected his CIBIL score and rendered him ineligible for the loan.

Upon realizing the fraud, Lodhi promptly reported the matter to the police. Following his complaint, the Piplani Police registered a case against Trivedi. Sub-Inspector Mitesh Mujalde confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on locating and apprehending the accused.

This case highlights the vulnerabilities within the banking system concerning fraud prevention and the responsibilities of outsourced staff. The bank has not released an official statement regarding the incident or any steps taken to enhance security protocols following this breach. As investigations continue, both the bank and the victim seek to understand how such a significant lapse occurred.

Victims of similar frauds are encouraged to monitor their financial accounts closely and report any suspicious activities to their banks immediately.
