Yashasvi Jaiswal Celebrates First ODI Century in India’s Victory
Yashasvi Jaiswal made headlines on December 6, 2025, by scoring his maiden One Day International (ODI) century during the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. The young opener celebrated with great passion, removing his helmet and embracing his batting partner, Virat Kohli, after reaching the landmark score. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen applauding from the dressing room, a testament to the significance of this achievement.
Jaiswal’s century came in the 36th over, as he nudged the ball to deep fine leg off the bowling of Corbin Bosch, bringing his score to 100. He had previously scored 18 and 22 in the first two matches of the series. After taking 75 balls to reach his fifty, Jaiswal found his rhythm, driving the innings forward with confidence. With this performance, he became the sixth Indian cricketer to score a century across all three formats, joining an elite list that includes Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, and Shubman Gill.
India was set a target of 271 runs after winning the toss and opting to bowl first, likely influenced by the dew factor. South African opener Quinton de Kock made a notable contribution, scoring 106 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to provide adequate support. The highlight of South Africa’s innings was a 113-run partnership between de Kock and Temba Bavuma, who contributed 48 runs. Ultimately, South Africa was bowled out for 270 runs in 47.5 overs, with India’s Kuldeep Yadav leading the bowling attack, taking four wickets for just 41 runs in 10 overs.
In response, India’s opening partnership set a strong foundation for the chase. Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma combined for a 155-run opening stand, which significantly eased the pressure on the middle order. Rohit scored 75 runs off 54 balls before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj. The Indian team comfortably reached the target, winning the match by nine wickets. Kohli continued his impressive form, registering his fourth consecutive score of over 50 in ODIs.
This victory not only secured the series for India but also highlighted the emergence of Jaiswal as a formidable talent in international cricket. His achievement marks a significant milestone in his career and adds to India’s rich cricketing history.
