The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as captain of the national Test team until the end of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. This decision reflects the Board’s confidence in Shanto’s leadership abilities and the progress the team has made under his guidance.
Since taking the captaincy in 2023, Shanto has led Bangladesh in 14 Test matches, marking a period of notable development and competitiveness in Test cricket. The BCB made this announcement on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of stable leadership as the team prepares for the upcoming challenges.
Confidence in Leadership and Team Growth
BCB President Md Aminul Islam expressed strong support for Shanto, highlighting his composure, commitment, and understanding of the game. “Shanto has shown growth, belief, and consistency in the team’s performances,” Islam stated in a press release. He added, “The Board believes that continuity in leadership will be crucial as we move forward in this World Test Championship cycle.”
Shanto expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue leading the team. “I feel truly honoured to continue leading the Bangladesh Test team, and I am very grateful to the Board for the faith and trust they have placed in my captaincy,” he said. He described captaining the team as the “greatest pride” of his life and committed to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Challenges
As Bangladesh prepares for a busy season, Shanto noted the talent and potential within the squad. He is particularly looking forward to the upcoming series against Ireland, which marks the beginning of a significant phase for Bangladesh Test cricket. “We have an exciting and positive season ahead,” he stated, hinting at the ambition for the team to build on its recent successes.
With Shanto at the helm, the BCB aims to foster a new era of growth, resilience, and success in Test cricket, reinforcing the team’s position on the international stage. The commitment to maintaining leadership stability is expected to play a vital role in the team’s performance as they work towards their goals in the World Test Championship.
