Jasprit Bumrah Achieves Historic 100 Wickets in All Formats
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has made history by becoming the first Indian cricketer to secure 100 wickets in all three formats of the game. He reached this remarkable milestone during the first T20 International against South Africa at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Bumrah achieved this feat with his very first wicket of the match, establishing himself alongside Arshdeep Singh, who is the second Indian to reach 100 T20I wickets.
Bumrah’s journey to this landmark in T20I cricket is particularly notable. He completed his 100 wickets in just his 81st match, having bowled in 78 innings. With an average of just over 18 and an impressive economy rate of under 7, he has showcased his extraordinary skill as a fast bowler. As per ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah is now only the fifth player globally to achieve 100 wickets in all formats, joining the ranks of renowned bowlers such as Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan, Shaheen Afridi, and Lasith Malinga.
Bumrah’s statistics reflect his dominance in limited-overs cricket. He has taken 149 wickets in 89 One Day Internationals (ODIs) at an average of 23.55. In the longer format, he has claimed 234 wickets from just 52 Tests, boasting an exceptional average of 19.79. His ability to deliver lethal yorkers has made him a key player for India across all formats, particularly in T20s.
Outstanding Performance in T20 Cricket
In T20I matches held on home soil, Bumrah has taken more than 25 wickets at an average under 25. His away performances are equally impressive, with 35 wickets at an average of 20.14 in 30 T20Is. Notably, he has excelled at neutral venues as well, recording 36 wickets at an outstanding average of 12.25.
Bumrah’s achievement not only highlights his exceptional talent but also solidifies his position as one of the premier fast bowlers in international cricket. His contributions have been crucial in bolstering India’s bowling attack, particularly in the T20 format, where his skill and precision have frequently turned matches in India’s favor. This historic milestone is expected to inspire the next generation of cricketers in India and around the world.
