Telangana Governor Launches Book Celebrating Resilience During COVID-19
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma officially launched the book titled The Extra Mile: A Chronicle of Cyberabad’s Grit and Humanity During the Covid Crisis on Friday in Hyderabad. The Governor emphasized that the book serves as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Telangana and showcases how citizens, institutions, and volunteers united to foster a compassionate society during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Celebrating Community Efforts
The book was co-authored by scientist Dr. Arun Tiwari and former Secretary-General of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), Krishna Yedula. During the launch event, which was attended by key figures including B. Shivadhar Reddy (Director General of Police), VC Sajjanar (Hyderabad Police Commissioner), and Avinash Mohanty (Cyberabad Police Commissioner), the Governor highlighted the book’s significance beyond just a historical account.
According to the authors, the narrative encapsulates the transformation of Cyberabad from a rugged landscape into a prominent global technology hub. More importantly, it documents the extraordinary human resilience that emerged during one of the most challenging times in recent history. “Cyberabad’s story is about a rare moment in history when humanity outshone fear and disruption,” they stated.
Highlighting Acts of Kindness
The book captures the extensive wave of service that swept through the region during the peak months of the pandemic. It details various initiatives orchestrated by the SCSC, including food distribution drives, plasma donation networks, and emergency coordination efforts that benefited thousands of individuals in need.
Co-author Krishna Yedula expressed that the book ultimately belongs to the volunteers who “selflessly worked round the clock” to support the community when the pandemic brought significant challenges to the city. Their efforts, as highlighted in the publication, reflect the collective spirit and unwavering determination of the people of Cyberabad.
The release of The Extra Mile not only commemorates the resilience shown during the COVID-19 crisis but also serves as a reminder of the power of unity in overcoming adversity. The book stands as a testament to the strength and compassion of the Telangana community during tumultuous times.
