Bangladesh Delegation Joins Vijay Diwas Celebrations in India
A delegation of 20 members from Bangladesh, including two serving officers from the Bangladesh Army and eight Mukti Yodhas, will visit India to participate in the Vijay Diwas celebrations on December 15 and 16, 2025. This annual event commemorates India’s significant victory in the 1971 War, during which approximately 93,000 soldiers of the Pakistan Army surrendered on December 16, marking one of the largest surrenders since the Second World War.
The Eastern Command of the Indian Army has been preparing for this occasion, recently concluding the Vijay Rally 2025, an annual motorcycle expedition dubbed “Ride for Valour.” This event aims to honor the sacrifices made during the 1971 War. The rally, which began on November 25, 2025, involved riders from various northeastern states and covered over 1,350 kilometers, passing through key locations such as Guwahati, Siliguri, and Kolkata.
Key Events During the Celebrations
The celebrations will formally commence with a curtain-raiser event at Vijay Durg, where the delegation from Bangladesh will participate in a Military Tattoo on December 15. The following day, a ceremonial wreath-laying will be conducted by Governor CV Ananda Bose at the Vijay Smarak in Vijay Durg, also known as Fort William. Major General Vanguru Raghu highlighted the significance of Vijay Diwas, stating that it reflects the “enduring legacy of the 1971 War” and the “unmatched bravery, selfless service, and supreme sacrifices of the Indian soldiers.”
The culmination of the Vijay Rally 2025 saw a ceremonial ride through Kolkata, where both military and civilian riders paid tribute to the fallen heroes. The final leg of the journey was led by Lt General RC Tiwari, GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command, who participated in a symbolic ride to honor the victory of 1971. A total of 71 service riders and 71 civilian riders joined this event, symbolizing valor and sacrifice.
Historical Significance and Community Engagement
The Vijay Diwas celebrations not only honor the military achievements of the past but also serve to strengthen ties between India and Bangladesh. The participation of Mukti Yodhas, who played a crucial role in the liberation of Bangladesh, adds a layer of historical significance to the event. The journey of the rally included solemn tributes at various war memorials, reflecting the commitment to remember those who sacrificed their lives during the conflict.
The enthusiastic participation of the local biking community during the rally further added to the patriotic fervor of the occasion. As the Vijay Rally 2025 concludes, the stage is set for the celebrations on December 14-16, which will spotlight the courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces while fostering camaraderie with Bangladesh.
