Surgeons Remove 15 kg Tumors from Woman in Complex Surgery
Surgeons at Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, successfully removed two large abdominal tumors weighing nearly 15 kg from a 50-year-old woman named Masali Bai. This significant medical achievement comes after the patient experienced severe stomach pain, swelling, and discomfort for several months.
Masali Bai, who hails from Dabiya village in Khargone, underwent initial medical investigations that revealed the presence of two massive growths in her abdomen. This rare condition posed a serious threat to her health, making timely surgical intervention crucial.
Complex Surgical Procedure
The intricate surgery was led by Dr. Arvind Shukla, the head of surgery at MY Hospital, in collaboration with Dr. Somen Bhattacharjee, a specialist in gynaecology. The doctors faced significant challenges due to the size of the tumors, their positioning near vital organs, and the patient’s prolonged symptoms.
To ensure a successful outcome, the surgical team adopted a multidisciplinary approach. This involved detailed pre-surgical planning and real-time coordination within the operating theatre. The procedure required navigating delicate anatomical structures to minimize the risk of major blood loss or internal injury.
According to the surgical team, the complexity of the case made it one of the most delicate procedures performed at the hospital in recent years. The meticulous nature of the surgery emphasized the need for careful management throughout the entire process.
Patient Recovery and Discharge
Following the successful removal of the tumors, Masali Bai was placed under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her recovery progressed steadily, with vital signs stabilizing and her mobility and appetite returning within days. On Monday, she was discharged from MY Hospital, marking a positive conclusion to her extensive medical ordeal.
This case highlights the remarkable capabilities of the medical team at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital and demonstrates the importance of prompt medical intervention in life-threatening situations.
