NDA Triumphs in Bihar Elections 2025 with Narrow Victories
The results of the Bihar elections held in March 2025 have revealed a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured a total of 203 seats. While the alliance celebrated its overall success, several constituencies showcased fierce competition, with some decided by fewer than 1,000 votes. These close races underline the intense political engagement among voters across Bihar.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party, winning 89 seats, closely followed by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) with 85 seats. In contrast, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), once a dominant force in the region, saw its representation dwindle to just 26 seats. Amidst record-breaking wins for the BJP and JD(U), the election highlighted both sweeping victories and nail-biting showdowns.
Close Contests Highlight Voter Engagement
The election results were marked by a remarkable number of close contests, with at least 14 seats won by margins of less than 1,000 votes. These tight races reflect the competitive nature of Bihar’s political landscape and the significant impact of each individual vote. Key contests included:
1. In Agiaon, BJP candidate Mahesh Paswan narrowly defeated CPI(ML)-L’s candidate by just 95 votes following a closely contested battle.
2. Bodh Gaya witnessed RJD’s Kumar Sarvjeet edge out LJP (Ram Vilas) candidate Shyamdeo Paswan by 881 votes, maintaining suspense until the final count.
3. In Chanpatia, Congress candidate Abhishek Ranjan clinched victory over BJP’s Umakant Singh with a margin of only 602 votes.
4. Forbesganj saw a heart-stopping contest where Congress’s Manoj Bishwas triumphed over BJP’s Vidya Sagar Keshari by just 221 votes.
5. In Goh, RJD’s Amrendra Kumar defeated BJP’s Dr. Ranvijay Kumar with a narrow margin of 767 votes.
6. Jehanabad had RJD’s Rahul Kumar secure a tense win against JD(U)’s Chandeswhar Prasad, finishing with a mere 255 votes separating them.
7. The contest in Sandesh was particularly dramatic, with JD(U)’s Radha Charan Sah winning over RJD’s Dipu Singh by the smallest margin of the day, only 27 votes.
8. In Bakhtiarpur, LJP (Ram Vilas) candidate Arun Kumar managed to fend off RJD’s Aniruddh Kumar by 981 votes.
9. Lastly, in Ramgarh, BSP’s Satish Kumar Singh Yadav narrowly led against BJP’s Ashok Kumar Singh by just 175 votes.
Implications of the Results
These razor-thin victories indicate that even amidst a dominant performance by the NDA, the political dynamics in Bihar remain highly contested. Each vote played a crucial role in shaping the outcomes, demonstrating the electorate’s diverse preferences across the state.
The results of the Bihar elections have brought forth both decisive victories and tense finishes, emphasizing that while the NDA has consolidated power, local contests remain fiercely competitive. The outcome serves as a reminder of the importance of voter engagement in shaping the political landscape in Bihar, reflecting the electorate’s varied priorities and interests.
