On November 14, 2023, the Rotary Club Dharwad Midtown, along with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Association of Physicians of India (API) Hubballi-Dharwad, will host a diabetes awareness walk to commemorate World Diabetes Day. The event aims to raise awareness about diabetes and encourage community engagement in health initiatives.

During a press conference held in Dharwad on Wednesday, Prakash Ramanagoudar, the event’s coordinator, announced that the walk will commence at 10 a.m. from Kadapa Maidan. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Commissioner, Rudresh Ghali, will officially flag off the event.

Key Participants and Activities

Several prominent figures will participate in the awareness walk, including S.M. Honakeri, the District Health Officer, and Jagadish Niradi, the president of IMA Dharwad. Other attendees will include Rajeev Gothe, the IMA secretary; Chandrashekhar Kachapur, president of API Hubballi-Dharwad; Avinash Patil, API secretary; and Govardhan Bhat, president of the Rotary Club Midtown.

The walk will traverse various thoroughfares in the city before returning to the starting point at Kadapa Maidan. This initiative not only promotes physical activity but also emphasizes the importance of diabetes awareness among the community.

Health Services Provided

In tandem with the walk, free diabetes check-up camps will be established across 12 locations in Dharwad. These check-up booths will be set up at key areas including CBT, Gandhi Chowk, Shivaji Circle, Nagareshwar Temple, Super Market, Kalabhavan, Vivekananda Circle, Saptapur, and Kamat Hotel. This initiative aims to provide essential health services to community members and encourage early detection and management of diabetes.

As diabetes remains a significant health challenge worldwide, events like this walk serve as vital platforms for education, prevention, and community involvement in health-related issues. The collaboration between local organizations highlights a unified effort to combat diabetes and promote healthier lifestyles.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the walk and take advantage of the free check-up services. Together, these efforts aim to foster a healthier future for the residents of Dharwad and raise awareness of diabetes on a broader scale.
